The Maldives Travel Guide – Whit Wanders

At the end of 2017, I was extremely lucky to go to the Maldives for vacation. The Maldives has always been one of my bucket list destinations. I shared photos on Instagram while I was there – but this is the first time I am blogging about my trip!   I grew up sailing in the South Pacific and I have seen some very beautiful spots. But the Maldives is unlike any place I have ever been too. Its one of those exotic travel destination that really makes you believe paradise exists. It’s absolutely magical. It’s also one of those places that you tend to only associate with honeymoons or for couples. But it’s quickly becoming more of a popular travel destination for people of all ages thanks to Instagram.  While it doesn’t come cheap, its one of those alluringly unique locations that is a 100% worth the investment.

I was fortunate enough to get to stay at the One&Only Reethi Rah resort. I will probably never again stay at a resort that nice! I was in the Maldives for little under a week. I wanted to share background about the country and all the activities you can enjoy in this idyllic paradise. So if you are planning a big vacation this year or want to jet off to an exotic location – read on! Make sure to watch my Maldives Travel Video!

I put together a fun vide of my time in the Maldives. Make sure to subscribe to my youtube channel!

WHERE IS THE MALDIVES

The Maldives is located in the Indian Ocean. It is south from India and Sir Lanka. The Maldive is a cluster of 2,000 islands and not all are inhabitable.

HOW TO GET THERE

Getting to the Maldives will require multiple flights – depending on where you are traveling from. If you live in the United States – the Maldives are literally on the other side of the world. There are no direct flights. But if you want to reach Paradise, travel is necessary.  I recommend flying through Singapore, Hong Kong or Taiwan if you are coming from the West Coast. If you are coming from the East Coast – you can fly through Dubai or London.

WHERE TO STAY IN THE MALDIVES

All Maldivian resorts are on their own island.  To get the resort, if you are flying into the Maldives Airport, you can take a boat or a seaplane to the resorts island.  This means that the facilities on the resort you choose (restaurants, bars, sports facilities, entertainment etc) are the only ones you will have access to during your stay. Most resorts offer excursions by boat to local fishing village islands, or to the capital Male, but otherwise, you will stay on the resort island for the duration of your stay. High season in the Maldives is between December and March.
